Last week we received a call that a birth mother wanted to meet us - today we made that a reality.
We sat down with the most caring, self less person I have ever met. She shared with us her life story and told us about each of her children she currently has. Each time she mentioned their names, she lit up with pride - and you could see the joy and love in her eyes. We enjoyed sitting and listening to her describe her children to us. You could tell she was a wonderful mother and loved her children. Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances in her life now she realized that she would be unable to care for the child she is currently carrying. This amazing lady sitting before us is looking to secure a better life that she would not be able to offer to her child. Our hearts cannot help but ache because we cannot imagine the pain she must be feeling; however, our hearts are overjoyed with the chance that she might just choose us to be her child's parents.
As I sit here and reflect on those moments we shared today, all I can think about is the story of Moses. Moses's mother gave up her son to save him from death at the hands of Pharaoh. It must have been a terrible sight to watch her baby float in a basket on the reeds, not knowing who will find him. Yet, she exercised her faith in God by taking a bold step to save his life. God honored her faith and Moses was picked up by Pharaoh’s own daughter!
The difference now is that this birth mother has the opportunity to choose who her child's parents will be. That hopefully will instill comfort and peace with making this very difficult decision. Also, it allowed for us to get to know each other a little better and you know...I felt completely comfortable the entire time. I was at peace with it and I know Dan was too...I could see it in his eyes and hear it in his voice. We both want to pursue an open identified adoption and pray that once her healing has began she will too.
Today we were asked to be the adoptive parents of this amazing lady's unborn child...and of course we said yes and are so very excited. We wanted to share the good news with you all and ask that you please pray and ask God to strengthen the birth mother as she goes through this adoption process and pray for her future. I cannot imagine what she must be going through during this time and how much harder it will get with each passing day.
So if all goes as planned and nothing changes (there is always a chance things will not work out the way it is planned) - then Dan & I are "expecting" sometime at the end of June! Thank you again for all of your continuous prayers, support and love.
